A young Haitian man is recovering in Toledo from surgery to repair a life-threatening hole in his heart. Fitho Jeudi lives in a small village in Haiti. A sister with St. Francis of Sylvania met him more than a year ago in Haiti. When Sister Fidelis Rubbo heard about his heart condition, that the required surgery was not performed in Haiti. She heard he would die if he didn't get it. Sister Rubbo contacted leaders in the community to see if they could make the arrangements. Fitho underwent surgery this week at Mercy Children's Hospital.

Billions of dollars in aid for Haiti are being pledged at a UN conference in New York, but the gesture is lost in the makeshift orphanages and camps near the capital Port-au-Prince.
Her name is not Jonatha -- that's the first surprise. It's Lovely.

The second surprise, and this is the big one, is that the 2-year-old girl plucked from the rubble of her home six days after the earthquake is not an orphan. She has a big family -- a mother, a father, aunts and uncles, cousins, and a little brother whom she likes to tickle and sing to, unless he's trying to grab her red marker.
